Preview: Brevard Blue Devils vs. North Stanly Comets
Brevard is on a five-game streak of home wins, while North Stanly is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Brevard Blue Devils will take on the North Stanly Comets at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Brevard walked away with it. They breezed by Trinity at home to the tune of 44-13. Brevard might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won eight games by 20 points or more this season.
Benjamin Kessinger and Nyrell Skinner were among the main playmakers for Brevard as the former threw for 149 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes and the latter rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns.
Brevard's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Judson Weaver was especially locked on to Trinity's QB and sacked him twice.
Meanwhile, North Stanly sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 34-32 victory over T.W. Andrews on Friday.
Chance Blake looked great while leading his team to the win, throwing for 325 yards and three touchdowns while completing 79.2% of his passes. Another player making a difference was Jay Jackson, who gained 106 total yards and two touchdowns.
Brevard's win bumped their record up to 9-2. As for North Stanly, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Brevard has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 195.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like North Stanly struggles in that department as they've been even better at 219.6 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
