Softball Recap: Genoa-Kingston Wins Going Away Against Rock Falls

Genoa-Kingston made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Rock Falls, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Cogs were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over the Rockets on Tuesday. This was payback for the Cogs, who suffered a 14-3 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Lily Provost was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. Provost was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.

In other batting news, Genoa-Kingston let Olivia Vasak and Elizabeth Davis run wild. Vasak scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4, while Davis went 3-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three stolen bases gave Vasak a new career-high. Arielle Rich was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.

Genoa-Kingston kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are undefeated (3-0) when they post 11 or more hits.

The victory made it two in a row for Genoa-Kingston and bumps their season record up to 6-7-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Rock Falls, they dropped their record down to 3-12 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Looking ahead, Genoa-Kingston is taking a road trip to challenge Harvard at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Rock Falls, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Byron at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rockets are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
