Baseball Recap: New Castle Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

New Castle and Jay County squared off in some playoff action on Wednesday, but New Castle had to settle for second. They came up short against the Patriots, falling 10-2. The Trojans' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Cameron Hastings was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over 4.1 innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Gannon Harris was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one run. Brayden Hancock also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

New Castle's loss dropped their record down to 6-19. As for Jay County, their victory bumped their record up to 11-14.

New Castle does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Jay County, they will face off against Delta at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Patriots surely won't give up without a fight.
