Football Recap: Nebraska City Takes a Loss

Nebraska City extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-4. They took a blow against the Central City Bison, falling 53-0. While losing is never fun, the Pioneers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked 90th, while the Bison are ranked fifth).

Landon Ferguson threw for 96 yards on eight of 22 attempts. Tyrese Gardner was his top target, picking up 67 receiving yards. On the ground, Adam Howard rushed for 51 yards.

As for Central City, their win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. Those home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 47.7 points over those games.

Central City's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Parker Zikmund, who threw for 202 yards and a pair of touchdowns on perfect 10-for-10 passing, and also punched in one TD on the ground. The dominant performance also gave Zikmund a new career-high in passer rating (177.1). Wyatt Dent also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.

Nebraska City didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 14-7 win against Falls City on the 26th. As for Central City, they have also already played their next game, a 56-27 victory against Adams Central on the 26th.
