Basketball Recap: Edward Bunn's Big Game Can't Quite Lead El Paso over Hillcrest

El Paso suffered their biggest loss since February 2, 2024 on Friday. They came up short against the Hillcrest Panthers, falling 65-41. The match marked the Tigers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

El Paso lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Edward Bunn, who went 5 for 8 on his way to 11 points. That's the most points Bunn has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Antonio Moreno, who posted four points and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, El Paso smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive contests.

Hillcrest's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Komarion Callahan, who went 7 of 10 on his way to 16 points and five rebounds. Callahan has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Jordan Johnson was another key player, going 5 of 10 on his way to 10 points along with seven boards and four steals.

El Paso's defeat dropped their record down to 11-9. As for Hillcrest, their victory bumped their record up to 5-11.

El Paso didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 60-39 loss against Lubbock Christian on the 27th. As for Hillcrest, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 62-49 win against Lubbock on the 27th.
