Baseball Recap: Ransom Everglades Wins Going Away Against Riviera Prep

Ransom Everglades made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Riviera Prep, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Ransom Everglades Raiders blew past the Riviera Prep Bulldogs 12-1 on Monday. Considering the Raiders have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Juan Velazco and Mason Lastra did most of the damage at the plate: Velazco scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Lastra went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Lastra has become a key player for Ransom Everglades: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Tyler Grossfeld, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Ransom Everglades always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .605. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Riviera Prep only posted an OBP of .333.

Ransom Everglades' win bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Riviera Prep, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ransom Everglades will challenge Somerset Academy (Silver Palms) at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Ransom Everglades is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.3 runs per game this season. As for Riviera Prep, they will face off against Ransom Everglades at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
