Football Game Preview: Millard West Wildcats vs. Elkhorn South Storm

The Millard West Wildcats will challenge the Elkhorn South Storm at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Millard West will be strutting in after a victory while Elkhorn South will be coming in after a defeat.

Millard West took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They came out on top against Westview by a score of 21-14.

Millard West relied on the efforts of David Washington, who gained 146 total yards and a touchdown, and Logan Kracht, who gained 79 total yards and a touchdown. The dominant performance also gave Washington a new career-high in rushing yards (83).

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Millard West proved: they limited Westview to a paltry 2.7 yards per carry. While one picked up at least six total tackles, Jack Meeks stood above the rest. He made six total tackles (2.0 for loss). Millard West's ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.8.

Meanwhile, Elkhorn South faced Papillion-LaVista South in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Storm fell 24-19 to the Titans.

Millard West will have to keep a close watch on Jaydon Sutko and Charlie Buller, a pair of players who had a big impact on Elkhorn South's prior game. Sutko gained 117 total yards and two touchdowns, while Buller rushed for 79 yards on only ten carries.

Millard West pushed their record up to 5-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to yards per carry: they averaged an imposing 9.5 yards per carry in those games compared to only 2.38 in the others. As for Elkhorn South, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 7-2.

Millard West lost to Elkhorn South on the road by a decisive 35-21 margin in their previous matchup back in August of 2021. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
