Basketball Game Preview: Sunnyside Wildcats vs. Roosevelt Rough Riders

The Sunnyside Wildcats will challenge the Roosevelt Rough Riders at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.

Sunnyside is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Fresno Christian just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They took a hard 69-51 fall against the Eagles.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Roosevelt). They breezed by Hanford West to the tune of 93-48 on Tuesday. The Rough Riders have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Roosevelt's win came from a few key players Sunnyside will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Cobi Posas, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 12 rebounds. His evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was James Miller, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 assists.

Roosevelt smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

The victory (which was Roosevelt's third in a row) raised their record to 11-7. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.0 points per game. As for Sunnyside, their loss dropped their record down to 11-6.

Sunnyside beat Roosevelt 62-54 in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. Does Sunnyside have another victory up their sleeve, or will Roosevelt turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
