Softball Recap: Princeton Gets the Win

Princeton won the last time they faced South Knox and things went their way on Monday too. The Tigers walked away with a 6-2 victory over the Spartans.

Brooklyn Turpin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on nine hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Kimberlyn Wood, who scored a run while going 4-for-5. What's more, she posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Kassidy Whitehead, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4.

Wood wasn't the only one making solid contact: Princeton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Princeton's win bumped their record up to 2-3. As for South Knox, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Coming up, Princeton will host Loogootee at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.2 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for South Knox, they will take on North Posey at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 11 runs per game this season.
