Softball Recap: Champion Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Despite a phenomenal run in the regular season, Champion couldn't carry that success into this playoff game. They fell just short of the South Range Raiders by a score of 1-0 on Wednesday. The match marked the first time this year in which the Golden Flashes were not able to get on the board.

Gabrielle Gradishar spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 18 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 20 consecutive appearances.

Champion's loss dropped their record down to 20-6. As for South Range, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 23-9.

Champion does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for South Range, they will take on Manchester at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Raiders 3.4, the Panthers 2.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
