Basketball Game Preview: GV Christian Guardians vs. Laughlin Cougars

The GV Christian Guardians will face off against the Laughlin Cougars at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Neither of those teams managed to put together many points in their previous contests, so the offenses might be a little more motivated than usual.

GV Christian is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Lake Mead Christian Academy just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. The game between them and the Eagles didn't end well, with GV Christian falling 41-22.

The losing side was boosted by Samantha Charron, who went 7 for 13 on her way to 14 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie Thurman, who posted four points in addition to 11 boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, GV Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in ten consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Laughlin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were outmatched by Needles and fell 51-7. The Cougars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 32-3.

Despite the loss, Laughlin saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Valeria Quintero put up four points and three steals.

Laughlin's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for GV Christian, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 7-9.

GV Christian came up short against Laughlin when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 32-25. Thankfully for GV Christian, Daishanae Jackson (who had 23 points along with seven steals and five boards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
