Preview: Afton Knights vs. Milford Central Wildcats
The Afton Knights's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Milford Central Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard on Tuesday.
Last Friday, Afton lost to Deposit-Hancock on the road by a decisive 81-64 margin.
Meanwhile, Milford Central waltzed into their match on Saturday with four straight wins but they left with five. They enjoyed a cozy 58-40 victory over Worcester. Given Milford Central's advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 273rd, while Worcester is ranked 612th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Christian Lawson and Braden Murphy were among the main playmakers for Milford Central as the former scored 18 points along with four steals and the latter scored 21 points along with eight rebounds. Lawson is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Carter Stevens, who scored seven points along with two steals.
Afton bumped their record down to 0-4 with that loss, which was their 12th straight on the road. As for Milford Central, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.
Afton lost to Milford Central on the road by a decisive 72-53 margin in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Can Afton avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
