Basketball Game Preview: Gar-Field Red Wolves vs. Freedom Eagles

Gar-Field is 2-8 against Freedom since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Gar-Field Red Wolves will venture away from home to take on the Freedom Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Gar-Field is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.7 points per game this season.

Freedom is hoping to do what Colonial Forge couldn't on Saturday: put an end to Gar-Field's winning streak, which now stands at three games. Gar-Field managed a 65-61 victory over Colonial Forge.

Gar-Field found their leader in sophomore Jonathan Jason Bell, who went 9 of 17 on his way to 25 points and four steals. The game was Bell's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijhah Walden, who posted eight points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Freedom was not able to break out of their rough patch back in December of 2024 as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were dealt a 66-27 defeat at the hands of Forest Park. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 363rd, while the Bruins are ranked 64th).

Gar-Field is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points per game. As for Freedom, their loss dropped their record down to 1-6.

Gar-Field didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Freedom in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, but they still walked away with a 62-56 win.
