Baseball Recap: Jamaica Has No Trouble Against Van Buren

Jamaica won the last time they faced Van Buren and things went their way on Thursday too. The Beavers put the hurt on the Vee Bees with a sharp 17-4 win. The Beavers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Neil Sirjoo was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up four earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Jamaica is undefeated when he allows at most one walk, but 2-5 otherwise. Sirjoo was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jasiah Curry, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, six stolen bases, and four runs. Those six stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Kendrik Meneses was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Jamaica always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .722. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Jamaica and bumps their season record up to 6-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 7 runs in those games. As for Van Buren, they are on a 16-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-9.
