Basketball Recap: Gila Ridge Comes Up Short

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 81-18, which was the final score in the Gila Ridge Hawks's tilt against the Williams Field Black Hawks on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, the Hawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 155th, while the Black Hawks are ranked 17th).

Ella Gettings was Gila Ridge's leading scorer, having posted seven points.

Sophia Carnes continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Williams Field, putting up 42 points in addition to seven assists and three steals. With that strong performance, Carnes is now averaging an impressive 19 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Anouk Rico, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Gila Ridge now has a losing record at 1-2. As for Williams Field, the win keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Gila Ridge wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 41-32 defeat against Vista Grande on the 5th. As for Williams Field, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 51-42 victory against Campo Verde on the 6th.
