Basketball Preview: Thornwell Saints vs. Whitmire Wolverines
Thornwell has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Whitmire Wolverines at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Whitmire took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Thornwell, who comes in off a win.
Last Thursday, Thornwell didn't have too much breathing room in their match against the Hornets, but they still walked away with a 22-18 victory. Given Thornwell's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 289th, while the Hornets are ranked 622nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Whitmire's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight defeat. They were beaten by Dixie 48-16.
Thornwell's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 1-9. As for Whitmire, they dropped their record down to 2-17 with that defeat, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.
Thornwell was taken down by the Wolverines 41-12 in their previous matchup back in January. Can Thornwell avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
