Softball Game Preview: Tharptown Wildcats vs. Danville Hawks

The Tharptown Wildcats will square off against the Danville Hawks at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Tharptown's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. Everything went their way against Red Bay as Tharptown made off with a 7-0 win. The contest marked the Wildcats' most dominant victory of the season so far.

Allie Gann was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Lexi Little, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

Tharptown was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in six consecutive matchups.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Danville and Elkmont meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. Danville sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over Elkmont. Seven seems to be a good number for the Hawks as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

The team relied heavily on Izzy Guest, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. She also brought in an RBI, marking her first of the season. Aubrey Reed was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-3.

Tharptown pushed their record up to 7-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Danville, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
