Softball Game Preview: Boulder Creek Jaguars vs. Millennium Tigers

The Boulder Creek Jaguars will challenge the Millennium Tigers at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Considering both teams were shutout in their prior games, the pair is probably coming into this one with something to prove.

Boulder Creek is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Arizona's top teams: O'Connor, who was ranked fourth at the time (Boulder Creek was ranked 12th). The Jaguars came up short against the Eagles on Thursday, falling 8-0. The Jaguars haven't had much luck with the Eagles recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.

Boulder Creek got a good showing from Avery Gurr, who pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Gurr has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

Meanwhile, Millennium was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They lost 14-0 to Xavier College Prep.

Boulder Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 17-5. As for Millennium, their loss dropped their record down to 7-17.

Millennium's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Boulder Creek has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Millennium, though, as they've been averaging 10.5 hits. Given Boulder Creek's sizable advantage in that area, the Tigers will need to find a way to close that gap.

Boulder Creek beat Millennium 7-2 in their previous meeting back in February of 2018. Will the Jaguars repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
