Softball Recap: Washington County Has No Trouble Against John Hardin

After low-scoring totals in their previous three game, Washington County brought some dynamite into their most recent contest. Everything went their way against the John Hardin Bulldogs on Monday as they made off with a 17-7 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Commanders as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Ashtyn Baker made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Baker was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ariana Gonzales, who got on base in five of her six plate appearances with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (three). Another player making a difference was Chloe Riley, who went 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Washington County's victory bumped their record up to 3-16. As for John Hardin, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Washington County will welcome Garrard County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for John Hardin, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Hart County at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
