Riverview hasn't had much luck against Flat Rock recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Pirates will square off against the Rams at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Riverview has five straight wins, Flat Rock has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Saturday, Riverview sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 9-7 victory over Monroe.
Olivia Salinas was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Salinas was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ella Vinco, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Phoebe Daniel was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Flat Rock fell victim to Grass Lake and their airtight pitching crew last Friday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Warriors.
Flat Rock saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Addi Kopp, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one double.
Riverview's win was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-0. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Flat Rock, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3.
Flat Rock's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Riverview has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 12 hits per game. It's a different story for Flat Rock, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given Riverview's sizable advantage in that area, the Rams will need to find a way to close that gap.
Riverview couldn't quite get it done against Flat Rock in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 5-2. Can the Pirates avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
