Baseball Recap: Gates County Triumphs

Gates County posted their closest win since March 26, 2024 on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Bertie Falcons 3-2. This was a revenge game for the Red Barons: when they faced off against the Falcons on Wednesday, they had to take a 6-3 loss.

Lyric Pittman was excellent, going 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Gates County: the team is 5-1 when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 1-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Greene, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

Gates County is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Bertie, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season.

Gates County wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 12-6 defeat against Perquimans on the 15th. As for Bertie, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 15-5 victory against North East Carolina Prep on the 15th.
