Basketball Game Preview: Wayne Christian Eagles vs. Epiphany Falcons

Wayne Christian is 6-0 against Epiphany since January of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Wayne Christian Eagles face off against the Epiphany Falcons at 6:30 p.m.

Last Tuesday, Wayne Christian was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 50-46 to Greenfield.

Despite the defeat, Wayne Christian had strong showings from Lindsey Walden, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 18 rebounds, and Sydney Vinson, who posted ten points along with seven steals and five boards. Those 18 rebounds gave Walden a new career-high.

Even though they lost, Wayne Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 0 assists per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 7.3.

Meanwhile, Epiphany hadn't done well against Wayne Country Day recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. Epiphany breezed by Wayne Country Day to the tune of 54-8. That 46 point margin sets a new team best for the Falcons this season.

Wayne Christian's loss dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Epiphany, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 8-12.

Wayne Christian took their win against Epiphany in their previous matchup on Monday by a conclusive 59-33. The rematch might be a little tougher for Wayne Christian since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
