Baseball Game Preview: Daviess County Panthers vs. Hancock County Hornets

Daviess County has gone 8-2 against Hancock County recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. Daviess County will take on Hancock County at 5:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Daviess County came up short against South Warren and fell 9-5.

Daviess County got a good showing from Weston Lawrence, who struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave Lawrence a new career-high.

At the plate, Daviess County saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cameron Rickard, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Logan Mewes also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Hancock County posted their closest victory since March 26, 2024 on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over McLean County.

Dec Lewko made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over six innings pitched. Lewko was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Jack Roberts and Dylan Mucker did most of the damage at the plate: Roberts scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while Mucker scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Hancock County now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Daviess County, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-2.

Everything went Daviess County's way against Hancock County in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Daviess County made off with a 13-0 victory. Does Daviess County have another victory up their sleeve, or will Hancock County turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
