Soccer Game Preview: Willow Canyon vs. Copper Canyon

The Willow Canyon Wildcats will head out to face off against the Copper Canyon Aztecs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Willow Canyon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 2.7 goals per game this season.

On Wednesday, Willow Canyon came up short against Desert Mountain and fell 3-1. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona soccer rankings (they are ranked 71st, while Wolves are ranked tenth).

Willow Canyon's goal came courtesy of Brynn Kelly, who's now up to 15 this season.

Meanwhile, Copper Canyon entered their tilt with Westview on Wednesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Their defense stepped up to hand the Knights a 7-0 shutout. That looming 7-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Aztecs yet this season.

Copper Canyon pushed their record up to 3-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those three contests. As for Willow Canyon, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-5-1.

Willow Canyon skirted past Copper Canyon 3-2 in their previous meeting back in November of 2023. Will Willow Canyon repeat their success, or does Copper Canyon have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
