League recap: Douglas County climbs in state rankings

AAAAAA Region 3 recap November 5, 2013

Douglas County scaled the state rankings by moving to 137 from 169 this week, the biggest jump in AAAAAA Region 3. The Tigers climbed the ranks as a result of besting East Coweta 21-7.

Adding to the longest winning streak in the league this week, Hughes beat Tri-Cities 37-0. The victory was the eighth in a row for the Panthers.

Malik Olvier was a passing and rushing force as Douglas County defeated the Indians. He completed 8 passes for 96 yards and also ran for 44 yards. Olvier's key target this week was Kenny McMillian, who caught 3 passes for 56 yards.

Kinan Humphrey threw for 105 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 4-11 with 0 interceptions.

Montavious Atkinson was the best receiver in the league this week as Hughes beat the Bulldogs. Atkinson racked up 2 receptions for 59 yards. Kenny Moxey helped Hughes' passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 46 yards.

Thanks to the talents of Humphrey and Keion Davis, Willie Cannon's team has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Humphrey is tops in the league in passing with 1,119 yards, while Davis has rushed for 1,335 yards this season. Tops in the league in receiving yards is Jason Respert's team's Justin Bridges, with 393 yards on 23 catches.

A big matchup in AAAAAA Region 3 this week will be when Westlake takes on the Panthers. As it stands, the Lions are in third, while Hughes is in first.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Westlake takes on the Panthers. Bryan Love's team has allowed 122 points this season, while Hughes has given up 68. The Lions allowed 9 points last week as they fell to Newnan.
