Softball Recap: Highland Snags 12th Victory in Last 15 Games

Highland made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Desert Ridge, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Hawks were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Jaguars on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Hawks, who have now won 14 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Kennedie Nelson tossed a big game, striking out nine batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Highland got a massive performance out of Alena Mascarenas, who went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. MadiLynn Bowen also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Highland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 19 hits. They are a perfect 11-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Highland has been performing well recently as they've won 12 of their last 15 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Desert Ridge, with the defeat, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 16-7.

Coming up, Desert Ridge will venture away from home to take on Xavier College Prep at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Jaguars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Gators have averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season. Highland will be paying especially close attention to Desert Ridge's game: after Desert Ridge faces off against Xavier College Prep, they'll take on Highland again at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
