Basketball Recap: Make It 17 in a Row for Maquoketa Valley

Maquoketa Valley put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 61-48 win over the Edgewood-Colesburg Vikings. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Iowa basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while the Vikings are ranked 159th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Maquoketa Valley pushed their record up to 17-0 with the victory, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.6 points per game. As for Edgewood-Colesburg, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-8.

Maquoketa Valley will face off against North Linn at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. North Linn knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Maquoketa Valley likes a good challenge. As for Edgewood-Colesburg, they will square off against Kee at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
