Basketball Recap: Midland Legacy Falls Despite Big Games from Diego Rodriguez and Ja'varion Starling

Midland Legacy lost against Frenship back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Midland Legacy Rebels fell 66-55 to the Frenship Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Rebels can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 302nd, while the Tigers are ranked 60th).

Midland Legacy's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Ja'Varion Starling, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 11 boards, and Diego Rodriguez, who went 7 of 14 en route to 20 points and five assists. That's the most points Starling has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Tristine Turner, who posted eight points.

Midland Legacy's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 17-13. As for Frenship, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 23-7.

Midland Legacy will face off against San Angelo Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Frenship, they will challenge Odessa at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Frenship knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 26 matches -- so hopefully Odessa likes a good challenge.
