Basketball Recap: Magdalena Takes a Loss

Magdalena has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 45-43 heartbreaker at the hands of the Jal Panthers. The Steers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2022.

Despite the loss, Magdalena still got an impressive performance from Jorianne Mirabal, who went 9 for 21 on her way to 26 points and six steals. Those 26 points gave Mirabal a new career-high.

Magdalena's loss dropped their record down to 12-4. As for Jal, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 6-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Magdalena will host Capitan at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Magdalena is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.1 points per game this season. As for Jal, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Jal Panthers face off against the Lovington Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
