Softball Game Preview: Scranton Rockets vs. Magazine Rattlers

Scranton is 7-1 against Magazine since March of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Rockets will welcome the Rattlers at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Scranton had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt West Side on Tuesday. The Rockets were the clear victors by a 12-6 margin over the Eagles.

Brecken Mainer (2028) made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up six earned runs off ten hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Scranton let Addie Layes (2026) and DeLaney Mainer (2026) run wild. Layes (2026) went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Mainer (2026) scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits Mainer (2026) has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Emey Pierce (2028), who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Magazine made easy work of Western Yell County on Monday and carried off an 8-2 victory.

The win got Magazine back to even at 6-6. As for Scranton, they pushed their record up to 11-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

Everything went Scranton's way against Magazine in their previous meeting on April 1st, as Scranton made off with an 11-1 win. Do the Rockets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rattlers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
