Preview: Westover Christian Academy Bulldogs vs. New Covenant Gryphons

The Westover Christian Academy Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the New Covenant Gryphons at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Westover Christian Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Friday.

Westover Christian Academy can now show off four landslide victories after their most recent contest. Everything went their way against Timberlake Christian as Westover Christian Academy made off with a 54-34 win. The win was just what Westover Christian Academy needed coming off of a 64-34 loss in their prior game.

Westover Christian Academy relied on the efforts of Caleb Hill, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds and five steals, and Malachai Waller, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 18 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Hardy, who scored eight points.

Meanwhile, New Covenant unfortunately witnessed the end of their 11-game winning streak on Thursday. They took a 54-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Eastern Mennonite.

Douglas Powell put forth a good effort for the losing side as he dropped a double-double on 26 points and 16 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Cole Murdock, who scored nine points along with three steals.

Even though they lost, New Covenant were working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Eastern Mennonite only racked up an assist.

Westover Christian Academy's win bumped their record up to 5-7. As for New Covenant, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-1.

Tuesday's matchup is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Westover Christian Academy have been dynamite from deep this season, having only drained 36.9% of their threes per game. However, it's not like New Covenant struggles in that department as they've drained 47.4% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.

Westover Christian Academy ended up a good deal behind New Covenant in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, losing 61-46.
