Basketball Game Preview: McAllen Memorial Mustangs vs. McAllen Bulldogs

The McAllen Memorial Mustangs will take on the McAllen Bulldogs at 12:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

McAllen Memorial fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 56-53. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Mustangs have suffered since February 2, 2024.

Meanwhile, McAllen was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North, falling 58-35. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 597th, while the Raiders are ranked 296th).

McAllen Memorial has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 19-9 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for McAllen, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-11.

McAllen Memorial didn't have too much breathing room in their game against McAllen in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, but they still walked away with a 53-47 win.
