Softball Recap: Tuesday's Defeat Ends Cuthbertson's Winning Streak

Cuthbertson dropped their record down to 13-4 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Marvin Ridge Mavericks. The Cavaliers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Mavericks earlier this season, when they won 9-6.

Grace Murray made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and one double.

As for Marvin Ridge, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 14-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games.

On Marvin Ridge's side, Anna Phifer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on eight hits. Phifer has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Lexi Kirby, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. Savannah Gibbons was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.

Cuthbertson didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, an 8-1 win against Fort Mill on the 9th. As for Marvin Ridge, they have also already played their next contest, a 20-0 victory against Sun Valley on the 15th.
