Basketball Game Preview: Rio Vikings vs. Albany Comets

The Rio Vikings are taking a road trip to take on the Albany Comets at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Rio has given up an average of 51.7 points per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Rio made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Johnson Creek, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Vikings fell just short of the Bluejays by a score of 60-57 on Monday. The Vikings haven't had much luck with the Bluejays recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Meanwhile, Albany hadn't done well against Highland recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way last Monday. The Comets were the clear victors by a 78-57 margin over the Cardinals. The Comets' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Albany and bumps their season record up to 3-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.5 points over those games. As for Rio, they now have a losing record of 4-5.

Rio suffered a grim 43-18 defeat to Albany in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
