Baseball Recap: Atrisco Heritage Academy Starts Season with Victory Against Manzano

Atrisco Heritage Academy had to kick off their season on the road on Saturday, but they showed no ill effects. They walked away with a 17-12 win over the Manzano Monarchs. For the Jaguars, this counts as revenge for the 5-2 victory the Monarchs walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Carlos Armijo made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Samuel Gonzalez and Ignacio Quintana did most of the damage at the plate: Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Quintana scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-5. The dominant performance also gave Quintana a new career-high in RBI (three). Fabian Escobedo was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-6.

Atrisco Heritage Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. They hit six more hits than Manzano's also-impressive total of 11.

Looking ahead, Atrisco Heritage Academy is taking a road trip to challenge Volcano Vista at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Manzano, they will welcome Cibola at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
