It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Monterey ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Pacific Grove Breakers by a score of 73-64. Winning may never get old, but the Dores sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Pacific Grove's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gabriel Valencia, who went 10 for 23 on his way to 23 points and seven rebounds. Valencia continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sergen Serttunc, who went 8 of 14 on his way to 21 points.
Monterey's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.1 points per game. As for Pacific Grove, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-4.
Monterey will challenge Salinas at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Monterey knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Salinas likes a good challenge.
