Baseball Game Preview: Columbus Explorers vs. Southridge Spartans

Columbus has gone a perfect 4-0 against Southridge recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. Columbus will take on Southridge in a tournament on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Columbus 2.1, Southridge 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Southridge will be up against a hot Columbus team: the squad just extended their winning streak to three. Columbus' pitchers stepped up to hand St. Brendan a 2-0 shutout on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Explorers have posted since February 13th.

Mathew Rios tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over 6.1 innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

Southridge not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 4th. They blew past Piper 6-0. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Spartans.

Columbus pushed their record up to 15-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Southridge, their win bumped their record up to 10-6.

Columbus beat Southridge 4-0 in their previous meeting back in March. Does Columbus have another victory up their sleeve, or will Southridge turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
