Baseball Recap: King's Fork Comes Up Short

King's Fork had lost four straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped down to 3-4 to make it five. They came up short against the Western Branch Bruins, falling 10-0. The game marked the first time this season in which the Bulldogs were not able to get on the board.

As for Western Branch, the win keeps them at an undefeated 7-0. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 10.9 runs this season.

For Western Branch's part, they got a great performance from Tripp Poore as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Poore has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Wilson Tone and Ryan Waddell did most of the damage at the plate: Tone went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Waddell went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Waddell has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dino Juguilon, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and two runs.

King's Fork will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Deep Creek at 5:45 p.m. on the 15th. As for Western Branch, they will challenge Greenbrier Christian Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bruins' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Gators have averaged an impressive 10.5 runs per game this season.
