Softball Recap: Huntingdon Has No Trouble Against Hollidaysburg

Huntingdon barely beat Hollidaysburg the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Bearcats were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Golden Tigers on Tuesday. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Bearcats also won the last time the pair played back in May of 2024.

Alivia Nicklow spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 13 Ks.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Izzy Kazmarski, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Emmah Royer was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Huntingdon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.8 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 10.4.

Huntingdon is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Hollidaysburg, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-14.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Huntingdon will challenge rival Philipsburg-Osceola at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bearcats 2.9, the Mountaineers 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Hollidaysburg is set to take on their familiar foe Bellwood-Antis at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
