Softball Recap: Southern Alamance Comes Up Short

Southern Alamance had lost eight straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 9-11 to make it nine. They came up short against the Corinth Holders Pirates, falling 10-4. The Patriots were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pirates apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2019.

As for Corinth Holders, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. Considering they have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

For Corinth Holders' part, Elizabeth McKenzie made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. McKenzie was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Savannah Goddard was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Mia Gwynn, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southern Alamance will venture away from home to challenge Eastern Alamance at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Patriots' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Corinth Holders, they will square off against Cleveland at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rams will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something the Pirates surely won't give up without a fight.
