Volleyball Recap: Aztec Takes a Loss

Aztec was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They lost 3-0 to the Kirtland Central Broncos. The Tigers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Broncos from their previous meeting back in November of 2024.

The match finished with set scores of 25-7, 25-18, 25-17.

Aztec's offense was headlined by Kayci Phillips and Riley Yoakum, who picked up five kills apiece. They got some help from Jazzlyn Gomez and her eight assists. She was also solid from the service line: she led the team with two aces.

Aztec's loss dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Kirtland Central, their victory was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-3.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Aztec is set to challenge their familiar foe Gallup at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Kirtland Central will face off against rival Bloomfield at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
