Baseball Game Preview: Plainwell Trojans vs. Sturgis Trojans

Plainwell will venture away from home to face off against Sturgis at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Plainwell is coming into the matchup on a five-game losing streak.

Plainwell fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against Kalamazoo Central on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Maroon Giants by a score of 8-7.

Andrew Hampton was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Luke Filkins was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, Sturgis made easy work of Martin on Saturday and carried off a 14-4 victory. That looming 14-4 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Trojans yet this season.

Sturgis' win ended a six-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-12. As for Plainwell, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11-1.

Plainwell came out on top in a nail-biter against Sturgis in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, sneaking past 9-7. Will Plainwell repeat their success, or does Sturgis has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
