Baseball Recap: William Byrd Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Franklin County, William Byrd was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Bassett Bengals. The Terriers haven't had any issues with the Bengals recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Bradley Counts spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Tate Kotz was incredible, firing off two home runs, three RBI, and one stolen base while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Jacob Courtemanche also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: William Byrd lost a few balls and finished the game with four home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

The victory got William Byrd back to even at 10-10. As for Bassett, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. William Byrd will venture away from home to take on Staunton River at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Eagles have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.89 runs per game on average), something the Terriers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Bassett, they are taking a road trip to challenge Mecklenburg County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The Phoenix have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.84 runs per game on average), something the Bengals will no doubt try to take advantage of.
