Basketball Recap: Maud Drops Season-High Score on Big Sandy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Maud). They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 72-70 victory over the Big Sandy Wildcats on Tuesday. That's more bragging rights for the Cardinals, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Malijah Francis and Kayden Smith certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Francis posted 17 points, while Smith earned 15 points. That's the most points Smith has posted since back in January. Another player making a difference was Key'Marion Williams, who put up nine points.

The win (which was Maud's sixth in a row) raised their record to 11-2. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.7 points per game. As for Big Sandy, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Maud Cardinals face off against the New Boston Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Big Sandy, they will take on Martins Mill in a tournament on Thursday. Martins Mill knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 contests -- so hopefully Big Sandy likes a good challenge.
