Basketball Recap: Adairsville Piles Up the Points Against Ridgeland

It was a proper cat-fight when Adairsville took on Ridgeland on Friday. The Adairsville Tigers claimed a resounding 73-33 victory over the Ridgeland Panthers. Given the Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 191st, while the Panthers are ranked 490th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Adairsville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Benjamin A Abernathy, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 17 rebounds. Those 17 boards gave A Abernathy a new career-high. Tre Winters was another key player, putting up 19 points along with seven assists and five rebounds.

Adairsville was working as a unit and finished the game with 21 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Ridgeland's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was TJ Foster, who posted nine points. Foster is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Isaac Mitchell, who scored five points and six boards.

Adairsville is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.6 points per game. As for Ridgeland, they dropped their record down to 6-17 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight at home.

Adairsville wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 76-69 win against Heritage on the 1st. As for Ridgeland, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 63-26 victory against Southeast Whitfield County on the 1st.
