Basketball Game Preview: Hughes Springs Mustangs vs. Jefferson Bulldogs

Hughes Springs is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Jefferson is on a five-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Hughes Springs Mustangs will host the Jefferson Bulldogs at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are at an even 4-4 against one another since December of 2015, but likely not for long.

Hughes Springs will bounce into Saturday's matchup after beating Chapel Hill, who they had gone 0-4 against in their four prior meetings. Hughes Springs strolled past Chapel Hill with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 38-21.

Meanwhile, Jefferson really took it to Daingerfield for the full four quarters, racking up a 71-28 victory. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 games by 21 points or more this season.

Hughes Springs is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-13 record this season. The wins came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.0 points per game. As for Jefferson, their win bumped their record up to 15-10.

Hughes Springs didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Jefferson in their previous meeting back in December of 2021, but they still walked away with a 55-49 victory.
