Basketball Recap: Fairfax Takes a Loss

Fairfax was the 62-44 winner over West Springfield when they last played one another back in February of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Fairfax Lions were just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 52-51 to the West Springfield Spartans. The Lions' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it five in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Fairfax lost, don't look at Cam Yingling. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double on 25 points and nine boards. That was a full 49% of Fairfax's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Mike Malarkey was another key player, putting up nine points and three blocks.

Fairfax now has a losing record at 7-8. As for West Springfield, they moved to 4-9 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Fairfax will be playing in front of their home fans against Lake Braddock at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for West Springfield, they will venture away from home to take on Alexandria City at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
