Basketball Recap: Brandeis Broncos vs. SA Roosevelt Rough Riders
The Brandeis Broncos were handed a three-point loss in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against the SA Roosevelt Rough Riders on Friday. Brandeis claimed a resounding 66-35 win over the Rough Riders on the road. Given Brandeis' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 49th, while the Rough Riders are ranked 956th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Rian Forestier was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 30 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Brandeis' points. Abigail Burdette was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with two steals.
Despite the defeat, SA Roosevelt saw an underclassman step up: Maddison Castillo scored 21 points along with two steals. Castillo has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Taaliah Miller, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Brandeis' win bumped their record up to 24-11. As for SA Roosevelt, they are on a 17-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-25.
Brandeis does not have any more games scheduled as of now. SA Roosevelt will head out on the road to take on the Cougars at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Clark's favor as the squad sits on three straight wins at home while the Rough Riders have been banged up by 13 consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.
