Baseball Game Preview: Upper Perkiomen Indians vs. Perkiomen Valley Vikings

Upper Perkiomen hasn't had much luck against Perkiomen Valley recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Indians will look to defend their home field against the Vikings at 4:00 p.m. Upper Perkiomen will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each game than the last.

On Tuesday, Upper Perkiomen needed a bit of extra time to put away Owen J. Roberts. They won by a run and slipped past the Wildcats 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Indians have posted since March 20th.

Upper Perkiomen saw nine different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ben Godshall, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave Godshall a new career-high. Nathan Schramm was another, going 1-for-2 with three runs.

Meanwhile, Perkiomen Valley unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Wednesday. They took an 8-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of Pope John Paul II.

Michael Strechay was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Aidan Autovino was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one double.

Upper Perkiomen's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Perkiomen Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.
