Basketball Recap: Denver North Takes a Loss

If Denver North was riding high fresh off their 78-32 takedown of Montbello last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Denver North Vikings took a 66-49 bruising from the Thomas Jefferson Spartans on Friday. While the Vikings didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Spartans 16-8 in the first quarter.

Thomas Jefferson's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zack Vanabbema, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards. Another player making a difference was Mosely Rowekamp, who went 5-for-10 on his way to 15 points.

Denver North's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 12-8. As for Thomas Jefferson, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Denver North will host Manual at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Manual will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Denver North surely won't give up without a fight. As for Thomas Jefferson, they will challenge Regis Groff at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Thomas Jefferson knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine games -- so hopefully Regis Groff likes a good challenge.
